After I married the love of my live in 2016, my husband and I emigrated from the Netherlands to Switzerland. We live in the city of Thun, near lake Thun. When I’m not making paper I like to go outside, take my camera with me and walk around in the beautiful Swiss nature, especially in the mountains since we don’t have them in the Netherlands.
A while ago I was asked to design menu cards. I wanted to make all aspects of the menu cards myself, including the paper. After doing some research, I decided to give it a try. I’ve put a lot of old scraps of paper in a blender, pulled it in a vat and then I made my first piece of paper.
These first sheets weren’t great but I immediately fell in love with every step of the process. Although I’m still pretty new in the papermaking world, a lot has changed since I’ve made that first piece of paper. And there is so much more to discover! The possibilities of paper are endless.
In this digital day and age we just might need to get back to the basics more often. Write a letter like old times. Put your feeling on a sheet of paper and share them with your friend, family or the person you love.
What could be more valuable than sending a handwritten letter to a loved one on a unique piece of handcrafted paper?
